I know you’re wondering what snails have to do with running. Let me tell you about these cute, little, harmless-looking moon snails. Moon snails seek out clams and other similar ocean animals, drill a hole in the shell, and slurp out the insides. Still think they’re cute? Maybe cool, but I think they’ve lost the “cute” factor for me!
Thankfully we have a bit more self-awareness than clams, and if we take the time, we can discover any “snails” attempting to waylay us on our spiritual journey.
Do you have any moon snails creeping into your life? Are there any seemingly innocent distractions keeping you from wholeheartedly running the race that God has marked out for you? Two places to get a clue about where your heart is can be found in your calendar and in your wallet. What you spend your time and money on is determined by your needs and desires. So often our “wants” feel more like “needs”! We have difficulty seeing the difference between the two in our own lives.
Take some time today to go snail hunting. Flick those babies off, and get your eyes back on the prize!
Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us (Hebrews 12:1).
Run, Baby, run!
