Decorative or Useful?

I’ve got Christmas boxes to go through later today that hold knick knacks for here and there around the house.

One box contains Christmas tablecloths, fabric napkins, and kitchen towels.

Those towels might be cheery and bright, soft and fuzzy, but when it comes to drying dishes, they’re useless! I’d much rather grab my old fashioned flour sack towels.

Now if only I had cheery flour sack Christmas towels…

Some of us in the church seem to think we’re the decorations. We make the place look good!

Others would rather do ALL of the work behind the scenes, never to be seen by anyone.

Wouldn’t it be nice for all of us to be both?

Each one of us can brighten someone else’s day, bringing a bit of joy to their heart.

At the same time, each of us has a useful role to play, building one another up and encouraging each other to actively do good.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Do you tend to be decorative or useful in the house of God? Why not both?
