Today is a lovely day for a lovely (short) list of things I love to see!
1. Cats at rest
Lions, tigers, housecats . . . they all have the uncanny knack of being able to shut the world out and contentedly just rest. I spent a little time at my daughter’s house this weekend. She has two very young boys, and a young cat. Watching that cat rest in the midst of toddler chaos was amazing!
Wouldn’t it be just as amazing if we could just rest in knowing that our God could handle all of the craziness of our lives, instead of driving ourselves crazy with it all?
“Then Jesus said, βCome to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NLT).
2. The Variety yet Similarity of Flower Blossoms
All but one of these flower pictures was taken from the yard around our house at one time or another:

How could flowers be so different, yet so similar at the same time? They all have the same parts, but they come in so many varieties. Even the same kinds of flower can appear so distinct from one another! Just think of all the different kinds of roses, for example.
The same applies to people. We are all so different, yet so similar in countless ways. As Mandisa sings, “We all bleed the same.” What would it be like if we began to look for ways we’re alike instead of dividing into opposing camps over so many issues?
“And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:27-28).
3. Eyes that Shine with the Spark of Life
Humor. Appreciation. Awe. Compassion.
Remember the saying, “Eyes are the window to the soul?” It’s so true. You can tell a great deal about a person’s state of mind by taking the time to really look them in the eye.
Seeing that spark of life in someone else can lift your own spirits. Just imagine how sharing your own lively spark can affect others!
4. Stormy Skies and Stormy Seas

I know, that’s two for one, but they really do go together sometimes! I love their reminder that no storm is greater than our Creator, who holds the universe together with a word.
“The Son radiates Godβs own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command” (Hebrews 1:3).
5. Woods Full of Leafless Trees Wearing Coats of Freshly-Fallen Snow

We just might get a big snowstorm blowing through this weekend. I love to look through the woods by our house to see them brightened by the glistening snow.
There’s no white quite like the white of fresh snow. It can be almost blinding if the sun is reflecting off it! Imagine that brightness–brighter than any bleach you can buy–when you read this prayer:
“Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7).
God’s grace and mercy is greater than all of the wrong choices we have made throughout our lives. Aren’t you grateful??
Now it’s your turn!

Beautiful post, Lauri. I love everything about it! I see beauty in so many things~particularly in nature which I love so much. When I see young children, particularly my tiny grandchildren and the miracle of life itself, how could I not believe in the power and miracle-making Christ I serve? Itβs everywhere I choose to find it. God bless you! π

I can resonate with all the things you’ve talked about. For me, a sunset speaks to me of God’s majesty, his artistry, and the promise that even though one day is ending, there will be another one to follow, full of fresh opportunities.
