Who do You Look Like?

It’s National Look-Alike Day, and time for a little fun!

I tried four different websites to discover what famous people I looked like.

After uploading a selfie without glasses, one site said I looked most like American singer and actress Vicki Lewis, another’s top result was Margaret Thatcher, and the other two sites told me I look like no one.

Hilarious!!

Adding the glasses I normally wear changed the results somewhat.

Only one site gave me a result (Robin Wright) and the other three had no matches for me. I guess I’m really one in a million!!

So what does this have to do with anything?

It may be fun to see who my face resembles, but it doesn’t carry any importance for me.

What matters to me is looking like Jesus more and more as I learn to follow him. And I don’t mean by wearing a beard! I’m pretty sure his hair and skin color were far from my own as well.

We’ve all heard that we become like who we spend the most time with. I want to become like Jesus, so I spend time with him daily, reading the Bible and talking with him. I try to put into practice what I read and hear.

I am far from where I want to be, but I’ve come a long way from where I was! He has done a work in me, and the longer I’m on this earth, the more I can see his hand working in my life as I choose his ways over my own.

“Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him” (Philippians 2:12b-13 NLT).

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV).

Becoming more like Jesus changes more than our inner life. Yes, we grow in the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, etc. found in Galatians 5:22-23), but we also grow in active love for our fellow humans walking the earth alongside us, no matter who they are, what they believe, or even what political bent they ascribe to (gasp).

As we are transformed into his image, both our being and our doing begin to resemble his more and more.

What was he like when he walked the earth?

How did he treat those around him?

I encourage you to read through the gospels, and take note of the answers you find to these questions. As you discover more about the who and the how of Jesus, pray that God would begin to work these characteristics into your own life.
