Runners in sneakers running a race on asphalt

Run: Five Minute Friday Prompt

Running is not a pastime of anyone in this family.

My father’s neuropathy has put running out of the realm of possibility for him.

My youngest grandson is just mastering walking, and running is not yet in his repertoire.

My son’s asthma is his excuse for not running.

I don’t run unless absolutely necessary. The pounding felt in my joints and feet is not pleasant. Give me weights and a bench in the basement, and I’m good!

The Bible, though, has a different outlook.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Hebrews 12:1 NLT

We are told to run the race marked out for us. My race is not your race, but all believers should be running this marathon of life with the same goal in view—to become more and more like Jesus Christ.

“Especially the sin” means there’s other weight that can slow us down. What else could there be?

Fear? Doubt? Regret? Others’ opinions? Grief?

What else do you think those other weights might be?

I may not choose to physically run, but I do aim to run the spiritual life toward maturity in Christ that God has laid out for me.
