I’m going to attempt to stay within my five-minute limit this time, without compromise!
We’ve got sewer construction happening along our street, with water diversion construction going on right outside our house. To work on diverting the water, workers must dig trenches. To keep the trench from collapsing on their heads, they install trench boxes first, which support the walls of the trenches.
Lucky me, I got pictures!
What would happen if we treated the Word of God with the same serious life-saving view these workers hold of their trench box?
The guidelines set forth by our Creator are for our own good, not his. They help us know how to live the best life we can for ourselves, as well as for our community.
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.
Psalm 119:1-3 NLT
Because he loves us so deeply, God wants the absolute best for us. His instructions bring life, not death.

When true to God’s rules we keep,
no ands or buts or if,
we will not be like silly sheep
running off a cliff
pursuing every newest thing,
always madly dashin’
after bright and shiny bling
and the coolest fashion.
Some will say that we are dull,
and that we likely never smile,
but I reply that my life’s full,
and live with verve and style
for God has never said it’s naughty
that a Christian drives a Maserati.
