God’s faithfulness is worth celebrating!
Today our church celebrated God’s faithfulness in carrying our daycare through 50 years of ministry to the children of our community. That’s a milestone to commemorate! So we threw a free party and invited families from all over town.
Praise and thanksgiving are not meant to be somber and dull. Instead, they are times to enjoy celebrating God’s goodness.
In that same spirit, I kick off the next segment of my Creation series. Through October and November I plan to write posts related to the fourth day of Creation:
Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.
Genesis 1:14-19 NLT
I wonder what changed when the sun became the new source of light. Were there shadows from the light that shone before the sun was made, or was the light everywhere during the day? Was the change from day to night sudden back then, or gradual like it is now?
I wasn’t there, so I won’t pretend to be an expert about those days in the beginning.
But I can tell you what I appreciate most about sunshine now! Here’s my list:
- Sunlight warming my skin on a cool day
- Sun rays breaking through a cloudy sky
- Sunshine providing energy for my plants to make food and grow cute flowers
- Sunlight reflecting back to color my world
- Light rays cutting through the sky at different angles to create colorful sunrises and sunsets
I feel these are all gifts to celebrate, appreciate, and thank God for.
