Rock of Ages

When my daughter was very young, she had a moving sand art picture. A picture frame held blue water with different hues of blue sand, and when the frame was tipped over, the sand would fall to the new bottom and create a different landscape. I think I played with it more than she did!

Our lives can often feel like that picture frame. Continue reading Rock of Ages

“Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith…” (1 Timothy 4:12).

I love this grove of trees. I have no idea what kind they are, but they grow like corkscrews! Never growing straight, but always growing up, reaching for the sun. Their mere height is a testament of their survival over time. Continue reading Example 4

Sideways tree roots

I love this picture.  Here’s a tree that never gave up, even when the earth beneath it has been slowly washed away.  The tree grows along the shore of a harbor, where stormy high tides can reach it every so often. On the other side is a trail that many people enjoy walking along. It’s got erosion coming at it from both sides, and yet it still stands, reaching high for sunlight and holding tightly with roots growing in every direction.

Paul wrote to Timothy, “Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live…” (1 Timothy 4:12).

We are called to be examples. Continue reading Example 2

Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). Whose example are we following? Christ is our ultimate example to strive for, although we will fail in our humanity! But thank God He understands our weaknesses, and is ready to forgive our many shortcomings.

Paul also wrote to Timothy, “Set an example for the believers…” (1 Timothy 4:12). Each one of us is an example to someone, whether we like it or not.  If I belong to Christ, my life is not my own (1 Corinthians 6:19). What are others seeing in me and you, as we walk out our days? I pray they see Christ.
